As defined by CrossFit Inc. – CrossFit is constantly varied, functional movement, performed at high intensity. Huh? That’s what I said the first time I heard it. Let’s start here…..In CrossFit, our workouts are called WODS, “Workout of the Day”. The majority of our WODS are timed so we can periodically repeat a WOD to gauge our progress. CrossFit is measurable, observable and repeatable, (courtesy of CrossFit Inc.) meaning that you can obtain a true assessment of your fitness.
Functional Movement - In CrossFit we perform movements seen in everyday life like squatting, jumping, running, throwing, climbing, lifting, etc. As coaches, we teach you how to perform all of these movements, and more, safely and efficiently to optimize your fitness.
Constantly Varied- What we mean by Constantly Varied is that our WODS are never the same so your body doesn’t get use to the same movements over and over causing the ”plateau” effect. The combinations of these movements are endless therefore making “Constantly Varied” pretty easy to come by. Again, periodically we will repeat WODS to gauge our progress.
Performed at High Intensity – Since most of our WODS are timed, the idea is to complete the WOD as quickly and efficiently as possible while maintaining proper form and range of motion. This style of working out really hits your cardiovascular/respiratory endurance.
Overall, CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that by design, is meant to test you physically and mentally. Your overall fitness and health WILL be bettered by CrossFit.
